Bamboula is a fusion-less Caribbean restaurant and rum bar located in the heart of Brixton
In 1998 a cottage industry in Walkerswood, Jamaica decided to branch out from its distribution of spices to local shops and grocers, to major supermarkets in the UK. They decided that a restaurant using their spices exclusively would help get people to taste why their spices were so unique.
Brixton, South West London was their destination of choice and so Bamboula was established. After 18 years of keeping customers' taste buds alive, Bamboula continues to keep the recipes of the Caribbean in England as ‘fusion-less’ as possible so that the diners get an authentic experience, teleported to the golden shores of the Caribbean.
The word ‘Bamboula’ means a lively African street dance accompanied by singing and drumming. The call and response song is led by a Bamboula queen whose songs often deal with social events, scandalous or otherwise! Bamboula is also a name given to ‘bammies’ or cassava bread in the Caribbean.
